The Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), Abdelilah Benkirane, said that he was pained by the willingness to organize the Mawazine festival despite «the difficult and disastrous conditions in which our brothers in Palestine are living, in light of the martyrdom and injury of more than 120,000 Palestinians, including more than 15,000 children».

In a video shared online on Wednesday evening, May 22, Benkirane added that the organization of this festival is a shame and a disgrace, reconsider the hosting of this event.

«It is unreasonable to rejoice and sing at a time when our brothers' limbs are cut off, they cannot find treatment, their hospitals have been destroyed, they cannot find sanitation, and they cannot find food and sustenance», the former Prime Minister said. «In these circumstances, we should at least not show joy and happiness», he added.

«When our people in Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip are being killed, starved, thirsty, and we are here rejoicing as if we don't care about all this, we are saying to Israel: Continue with your crimes», he argued.

«My appeal to those concerned is to cancel this edition of the festival, or at least postpone it until the Israeli war ends», he added.
