Moroccan-Dutch boxer Jamal Ben Saddik has been suspended from Glory for six months following incidents that occurred on March 9 during the semi-final of the Glory Heavyweight Grand Prix.
At the end of the fight, won by Rico Verhoeven over Nabil Khachab, Ben Saddik climbed into the ring and tried to pick a fight with the champion. Following their investigation, the organizers of Glory pointed to actions that constituted a «risk of incitement to violence», which could «cause harm to participants, fans, and officials».
In addition to the Glory code of conduct, Dutch boxers and clubs are bound by the disciplinary provisions of the Vechtsport Autoriteit (VA). This framework enables promoters to investigate possible violations and determine sanctions accordingly.
«In working with the VA and keeping the precedent set by them, it was clear that our common goal is to always represent the sport in the best possible light. The decision we have taken is in line with this objective|, announced Glory CEO Marshall Zelaznik, quoted by Boxemag.
In this sense, Glory CEO announced his intention to review their procedures in order to better preserve the image of kickboxing, protect athletes, and the public.
