Africa-focused energy company Chariot Limited has announced a potential gas discovery at its OBA-1 well in Morocco, according to a press release issued on Tuesday. Early analysis of the well confirms the presence of reservoirs over an interval of approximately 200 meters gross thickness.
Within this area, located in Chariot's Loukos Onshore licence, there's a 70-meter section with particularly high potential for gas. This section showed high electrical resistance along with signs of gas in the drilling mud, suggesting potential gas deposits without any water.
Further analysis will be conducted before well testing, which will determine the amount of gas recoverable and the overall potential of the discovery. The well will be temporarily closed for future testing and possible future use as a production well.
«We are very pleased to report the successful drilling of the OBA-1 well at the Dartois prospect which now concludes Chariot's first onshore drilling campaign in Morocco and brings with it positive results for the potential of the Dartois area», said Chariot's Technical Director, Duncan Wallace.
For the record, Chariot secured the Loukos licence in August of 2023, covering an approximate area of 1,371 km2 and is adjacent to Chariot’s Lixus and Rissana offshore licenses.
75% interest in, and operatorship of the Loukos licence signed by a wholly owned subsidiary of Chariot Limited in partnership with Morocco’s Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines (ONHYM) which holds a 25% interest.
