The Minister for Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, has rejected any connection with a photo attributed to her by The Australian newspaper. In a statement issued by her department on Tuesday, she called the allegations «totally false and unfounded», and even «defamatory».

On Monday, the newspaper published a photograph taken in Paris, showing Andrew Forrest, chairman of the Australian Fortescue group and his country's second richest man, kissing a woman whose face was not revealed. Without further indication, the medium suggested that this was the Moroccan minister, which she «categorically» denies.

Leila Benali further emphasized her unwavering commitment to ethical conduct, both in her personal life as a Moroccan woman and mother, and in her professional role as a government official. In this vein, she denounced a targeting campaign orchestrated by certain parties who, she alleges, failed to achieve their objectives.

The Ministry also reaffirms that public contracts and tenders within the energy investment sector adhere strictly to the principles of good governance and independent decision-making by the relevant institutions.
