A Cairo court sentenced Ahly winger Hussein El Shahat to a one-year suspended prison term on Thursday for assaulting Pyramids player Mohamed Chibi, a Moroccan international.

The court also banned El Shahat for five years from any «sports activities» and ordered him to pay 100,000 pounds in compensation.

El Shahat slapped Chibi, a Moroccan international, on July 23rd, after Al Ahly lost to Pyramids by three goals. Chibi then filed a legal complaint in Egypt, accusing him of assault and verbal abuse.

According to a previous report by the Public Prosecution, the investigation revealed that El Shahat «committed assault, verbal abuse, and defamation against the complainant Mohamed Chibi, player of Pyramids Club, and his mother, all in full view of millions of Egyptians and Arabs».

The complaint added, «As a result of these acts, he inflicted the most serious physical, material and psychological damage on the complainant through the spread of many videos on social media of the incident».
