Shown abroad for the first time between February 21 and May 20, 2024, the «Berber Jewelry from the Royal Palace» exhibition closed to great acclaim from visitors to Doha's Museum of Islamic Art.
This event, which kicked off the Qatar-Morocco 2024 cultural year, was organized in partnership with the National Museums Foundation (FNM) and supported by the Kingdom's embassy in the Gulf country.
It was intended to be «a unique window on Moroccan culture». It also bears witness to the «strong and historic ties between the two brotherly peoples and the two Heads of State», King Mohammed VI and Sheikh Tamim Ben Hamad Al Thani, says a press release.
«The exhibition was intended as a face-to-face encounter between the visitor and an impressive collection of silver jewelry, which forms an important part of the permanent exhibition of the Moroccan Oudayas belonging to the Musée National de la Parure in Rabat, paying tribute to the craftsmen who meticulously chiselled these exceptional pieces and, in particular, to the women who have safeguarded these traditions», adds the same source.
Many visitors, both tourists and Qatari nationals, expressed their pride at discovering Amazigh jewelry, an element so deeply rooted in Morocco's ancestral heritage. To immortalize the momentous occasion of this unique exhibition, a film was produced to showcase the 200 pieces of jewelry on display, so as to «reach a wider audience worldwide».
In the same vein, the «years of culture» initiative aims to «strengthen relations between nations and their peoples», with a partner country for each edition. Thus, «the year will be punctuated by major art exhibitions and cultural events in each of the two countries» featured.
As part of the program, Morocco is planning several activities highlighting «know-how, culture, architecture, gastronomy and the arts».
