Algiers once again advocated for the Polisario during a debate organized on Friday, June 14 at the Security Council, on the adoption, on June 14, 2023, of a resolution urging states to publicly condemn violence, hate speech, and extremism motivated by discrimination.

Initially, the permanent representative of Algeria to the United Nations denounced «the barbaric aggression» and «the genocide and atrocities perpetrated in Gaza by the Israeli occupation against innocent civilians», reports the UN. Amar Ben Jamaa continued by calling on the United Nations «to grant the right to self-determination to those under the law of oppression and forcibly displaced in Palestine, Western Sahara, and elsewhere».

For the record, last April, the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, took advantage of a debate on drugs organized at the Security Council, to call for an «end of the occupation of territories such as the Occupied Palestinian Territory or Western Sahara». An intervention immediately condemned by the Moroccan ambassador Omar Hilale.
