The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has overturned the suspension imposed on Moroccan international Mohamed Chibi by the Egyptian Football Association.

Pyramids FC, Chibi's club, explained in a press release that CAS recognized Chibi's right to seek civil justice for El Shahat's aggression, requiring the Egyptian Football Association to lift the suspension immediately. The decision comes a day after the club lodged an appeal, saying it wanted to «preserve the rights of its player».

Last May, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) suspended Chibi for appealing to the Cairo Criminal Court after he was assaulted by Al Ahly player Hussein El Shahat in July 2023. The EFA initially fined Chibi 21,063 dirhams for breaching regulations by resorting to civil court.

Meanwhile, El Shahat received a one-year suspended prison sentence from the Cairo court, along with a five-year ban on sports administration and a 21,063 dirham fine.
