The Sanchez government is working diligently to convince King Mohammed VI to attend a ceremony in Madrid, scheduled for the coming months, where FIFA will officially attribute the organization of the 2030 World Cup to Morocco, Portugal, and Spain.

«The invitation has already been sent to Rabat by the government, following efforts by the General Directorate of Protocol, Chancellery, and Foreign Orders, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This body is technically preparing the project for the royal visit. However, Morocco has not yet responded to the invitation», Spanish diplomatic sources told OK Diario.

The Iberian executive hopes that King Mohammed VI's presence in Spain will definitively seal the «reconciliation» between the two countries «after some turbulent years in their relations, particularly following the clandestine and government-protected entry into Spain of the Polisario Front leader, Brahim Ghali», the same sources explained.

OK Diario believes that a possible visit by King Mohammed VI to Madrid would not be marked by talks with Pedro Sanchez, emphasizing that the sovereign would be the guest of King Felipe VI.

For the record, the last official visit of King Mohammed VI to Spain was on March 11, 2005. He traveled to Madrid to commemorate the first anniversary of the March 11, 2004 terrorist attacks. This visit occurred while the former head of government, the socialist José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, had opened a new chapter in relations with Morocco, ending years of crisis under the premiership of José María Aznar of the People’s Party.
