In the Italian city of Verona, police concluded a series of arrests on Friday, June 21, by apprehending the last of six Moroccan suspects involved in the torture of a 26-year-old compatriot, reports Il Gazzettino.
The suspects, all undocumented immigrants, targeted the man after he reported them for assaulting two Somalis ten days earlier. The initial assault led to one of the Somalis tragically drowning in the Camuzzoni canal while trying to escape their attackers.
In retaliation, the group lured the young man to an abandoned building where he was sleeping. They then subjected him to severe violence, leaving him with serious injuries on his body and face.
Following the arrest of the first five suspects on June 4, police tracked down the last member, a 23-year-old, by monitoring phone communications. He was apprehended with 1,500 euros in cash, a knife, and two phones, all believed to be linked to criminal activity. All six defendants are now in custody facing charges of torture, aggravated robbery, and grievous bodily harm.
