Polisario responds to Omar Hilale's Committee of 24 remarks on Sahara

The Polisario finally responded to the intervention of Morocco's permanent representative to the UN, Omar Hilale, at the last meeting of the Committee of 24, held on June 10 and 11 in New York.

In a letter addressed to the current President of the Security Council, Russia's Vassily Nebenzia, the Front stresses that «Morocco was not the first to include, in 1963, the question of Western Sahara on the agenda of the 4th UN Commission» responsible for examining non-autonomous regions, reports SPS. The Polisario's letter avoids mentioning which party submitted the initial request regarding Western Sahara to the UN.

In May 1962, Tangier hosted the first session of the Committee of 24 outside UN headquarters in New York, well before the creation of the Algerian state on July 5, 1962, and of the Polisario in 1972 in Libya.

At the Kingdom's request, the question of «Spanish Sahara» and Sidi Ifni was included on the C24 agenda. Historical truths that Ambassador Omar Hilale had recalled during his intervention at the C24 regional seminar for the Caribbean, organized in May 2017 in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
