Moroccan-focused potash development company Emmerson PLC announced on Friday that the first crop trial results at its Khemisset potash (KMP) project have been positive, demonstrating their effectiveness as a source of phosphate, according to Proactive.

These would be followed by trials on effectiveness for other micronutrients, explained Graham Clarke, the company's chief executive.

«We have also signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) for the offtake of a significant quantity of the new KMP products, confirming the marketability of these multi-nutrient fertilisers», he said.

Emmerson said it has submitted patent applications for KMP in both Morocco and the UK.

The UK-listed company also said that its updated environmental and social impact assessment, which incorporates the recent KMP developments, is currently under review by Morocco's Regional Investment Commission.

Obtaining environmental approval for its Khemisset project is a key goal for Emmerson.

«The company is continuing with low cost/high value testwork related to KMP including crop trials, technical workshops, and production optimizations both in Morocco and the U.K.», it said.
