Historic 25 Muslims elected to UK House of Commons amidst Islamophobia

In the recent UK parliamentary elections, a record number of Muslims were elected to the House of Commons, despite a toxic political climate marked by a rise in racist and Islamophobic violence. According to Muslim Network TV, cited by Anadolu, 25 Muslim candidates secured seats, up from 19 in the 2019 elections.

Of those elected, 18 are affiliated with the Labour Party, four ran as independents, two are from the Conservative Party, and one is a member of the Liberal Democrats. The support of Muslim voters in areas like Gaza had a strong impact on these elections, enabling five independent candidates, including four Muslims, to win seats.

With 3.4 million Muslims living in the UK, this election marks a significant milestone in the country's political landscape, reflecting its growing diversity.
