Polisario supporters in Spain have issued a warning to Salgado Congelados S.L., a Galician company that imports octopus from Dakhla. To meet the rising demand for octopus, a popular summer season product in the region, Salgado Congelados S.L. has increased its imports from Morocco.

«This decision is a serious violation of the rights of the Saharawi people», the Polisario supporters wrote in a statement. «Western Sahara is a non-autonomous territory according to the United Nations, and its status cannot be changed without the consent of its people».

«We urge Salgado Congelados S.L. to immediately cease marketing products from Western Sahara and to strictly comply with international regulations», they said. «We call on the competent authorities to ensure that the rights of the Saharawi people are respected and that practices perpetuating their situation of illegal occupation are stopped».

The reaction by the Polisario supporters in Galicia mirrors the frequent warnings issued by the British NGO Western Sahara Resource Watch (WSRW) to companies with investments in the Sahara.
