On Saturday, July 27, judicial police in Tangier arrested two individuals suspected of possessing and distributing nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas. The operation led to the seizure of 594 vials of the product, originally intended for medical use but increasingly abused for its euphoric effects, especially among teenagers, reports Al Akhbar.
Amid growing concerns about the gas's proliferation in several Tangier neighborhoods, a simultaneous operation in the Al Aouama district resulted in the arrest of six more people and the confiscation of 1,104 nitrous oxide bottles. Investigations also uncovered the use of the gas in some shisha cafés, where balloons for inhalation were seized.
Despite being dangerous and linked to numerous cases of fainting and heart attacks, nitrous oxide consumption appears to be on the rise, particularly in beaches and isolated areas.
