On Monday in Paris, Morocco, Portugal, and Spain submitted their joint bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

The official bid was presented to FIFA President Gianni Infantino by the leaders of the three federations: Fawzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Association; Fernando Gomes, President of the Portuguese Football Federation; and Álvaro de Miguel, Secretary General of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, on behalf of Pedro Rocha, President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation.

This would mark the first time in the 100-year history of the FIFA Men’s World Cup that it is hosted across two continents. The bid focuses on building cultural bridges, creating a welcoming environment for fans and visitors from all backgrounds, and leaving a lasting legacy in sustainability, innovation, investment, and social impact.

It is worth noting that the final decision on the host of the 2030 FIFA World Cup will be made by the FIFA Congress through a vote on December 11, 2024.

After receiving the candidacy file from the three countries, Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, remarked: «Your three countries have already given so much to football, demonstrating great passion for the game, exceptional organizational skills, and a shared vision of what football and its values should be. It is fantastic to unite two continents in the dream of organizing the FIFA World Cup. Football unites the world, and you are proving it with this bid».

During the event in Paris, the leaders of the three bidding federations outlined their vision for the bid. Fawzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Association, stated: «We are confident that our candidacy will be a legacy for today’s generations and for those to come. We want the 2030 FIFA World Cup to unite people from around the world and make all Africans proud».
