Appeal court sentences radio host Momo to 4 months for staged theft

On Monday, July 29th, the Casablanca Court of Appeals upheld the initial verdict of four months' imprisonment against radio host Mohamed Bousfiha, known as «Momo», in the case of «faking a cell phone theft on radio». The court also upheld the sentence of three months' imprisonment for another defendant, while reducing the sentence of a third defendant from five months to four months.

Additionally, the court ordered the defendants to pay 25,000 dirhams in compensation to Hit Radio.

The three defendants were charged with «fabricating a fictitious theft crime, spreading false news that affects the sense of security of citizens through information systems, and insulting an organized body by making false statements».

Momo was released on bail of 100,000 dirhams, while the other two defendants remained in custody.
