US exports to Morocco soar to $610.17 million in 2023, led by soybean meal exports

The United States exported goods worth $610.17 million to Morocco in 2023, according to recently released data by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). This figure is the highest in the last ten years, showing a compound average growth of 3.9% from 2014 to 2023.

In 2022, total US exports to Morocco amounted to $603.43 million. The value of US exports to the Kingdom was $564.34 million in 2021 and $477.06 million in 2020. In 2019, US exports to Morocco totaled $298.64 million, down from $586.57 million in 2018. The report indicates a 3-year average of $592.65 million in US exports to Morocco.

The top commodity exported from the US to Morocco in 2023 was soybean meal, primarily used in food and animal feeds as a protein supplement and a source of metabolizable energy. The US exported 427,272 tons of soybean meal to Morocco in 2023, valued at $225.40 million.

The second top export was tree nuts, including almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pine nuts (pignolias), pistachio nuts, and walnuts. In 2023, Morocco imported 32,381 tons of tree nuts worth $137.03 million.

Next were distillers grains, a cereal byproduct of the distillation process, with a total export value of $91.41 million in 2023. Corn exports followed, with 235,278 tons valued at $67.1 million. Additionally, 88,657 tons of other feeds, meals, and fodders were exported, totaling $22.53 million.

In 2023, Morocco imported 21,148 tons of US soybeans for a total of $13.22 million. This was followed by US beer exports, accounting for $10.94 million. Other top US exports to Morocco in 2023 included wheat ($6.73 million), distilled spirits ($5.67 million), and dairy products ($4.84 million).

USDA data reveals that Morocco is ranked 36th among US agricultural export markets.

It is worth noting that Morocco and the USA signed a Free Trade Agreement on June 15, 2004, which entered into force on January 1, 2006.
