Moroccan skateboarder Aya Asaqas makes Olympic debut with stylish twist

Moroccan skateboarder Aya Asaqas is making history at the Paris 2024 Olympics, becoming the first African and Arab woman to qualify for the event. To celebrate this milestone, the Royal Moroccan Federation of Urban Sports has partnered with fashion designer Samira Haddouchi to create unique skateboards adorned with traditional Moroccan motifs.

Adorned with traditional Moroccan motifs such as zellij and caftan, this collaboration is exhibited from July 27 to August 12 at La Villette, as part of an event organized by the French Federation of Urban Sports.

The Federation is dedicated to developing skateboarding in the country, providing young athletes with the necessary resources to excel, reads a communique by the sports body. Aya Asaqas's qualification is a testament to their efforts and a source of inspiration for the youth. Aged 21, Aya Asaqas has already made headlines after participating in competitions in the United Arab Emirates, China, and Hungary.

«We firmly believe in the potential of our young athletes and strive to provide them with the best conditions to excel. We will continue to support this discipline and strengthen our infrastructure to enable other talents to shine on the international stage. Our ambition is to reinforce Morocco's position in international competitions and ensure a strong and consistent presence in urban sports worldwide», the President of the Federation said.

Collaborating with the Royal Moroccan Federation of Urban and Similar Sports has been crucial in promoting our art and supporting our athletes internationally», Haddouchi said.

Samira Haddouchi is a renowned Moroccan fashion designer known for blending traditional and modern styles. Born in Tangier, she studied at the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne and the École Internationale de Mode, Arts et Design at Collège LaSalle. Her designs have received international acclaim and been featured at major Fashion Weeks across the globe. Her creations have been worn by stars like Whitney Houston and Majda Roumi.
