A government delegation from Nigeria, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation/Marine and Blue Economy, Olufemi Oloruntola, paid a working visit to Dakhla on Thursday to learn about Morocco's experience in the fields of maritime fishing and ports, according to MAP.

The mission visited the construction site of the Dakhla Atlantique port project, an industrial unit for the enhancement of small pelagics, the aquaculture laboratory of the Institut National de Recherche Halieutique (INRH), and an aquaculture farm specializing in sustainable oyster farming and the production of high-quality oysters.

Nigeria has recognized the so-called SADR since 1984. Under former president Muhammadu Buhari (2015-2023), Abuja initiated an overture to Morocco. Cooperation between the two countries began with OCP's involvement in the development of Nigerian agriculture. This rapprochement was further strengthened by the signing of the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project in Rabat in June 2018. The progress of this project was also on the agenda of the telephone conversation between King Mohammed VI and the President of Nigeria, Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu, on January 23, 2024.

The Polisario has not yet reacted to the Nigerian government delegation's visit to Dakhla.
