Women's clubs FC Sevilla and SC Casablanca are set to face off in a friendly match on Saturday, August 24, at 7 pm in Casablanca. This match will pit the current runners-up of the CAF Women's Champions League against the Spanish side, which recently signed left-winger Fatima Tagnaout for two seasons.
The friendly follows «an invitation from Sporting Club Casablanca to participate in the Women's Cup of Morocco 2024», according to a press release from Sevilla, sent Thursday to Yabiladi. After «several meetings between the management of the two clubs», an agreement was reached to schedule this match. The game aims to «strengthen the bond between the two sporting entities», «develop their relationship», and lay «the foundation for future collaborations, such as knowledge exchange in the football industry».
FC Sevilla also sees this as «an opportunity to build stronger ties with football in Morocco, particularly women's football». For the Spanish club, the match will serve as «another test for David Losada's team» as they gear up for the start of the 2024-2025 Liga F season.
This game against the Moroccan club adds a new date to FC Sevilla's schedule of international friendlies, which also includes participation in the Algarve Trophy. They are set to play against Sporting CP and Benfica on August 8 and 9, respectively.
Since 2019, Sporting Club Casablanca's women's football team has seen a remarkable rise. Alongside AS FAR, the club from which Fatima Tagnaout hails, SCC has quickly become one of the pioneering teams in the CAF Women's Champions League, finishing as runners-up in 2023.
