A group of PJD MPs is calling for an urgent meeting of the Culture, Education, and Communication Commission to investigate what they deem a disappointing performance by Moroccan athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
In a letter addressed to the commission's chairman on Monday, August 12, the MPs demanded the attendance of Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, and Faïçal Laraichi, President of the Moroccan Olympic Committee since June 14, 2017.
The PJD MPs expressed dissatisfaction with Morocco's two-medal haul (one gold, one bronze) at the Paris Olympics, characterizing it as «inferior to the results achieved by other countries».
The group also requested the presence of former Moroccan Olympic track and field champions, including Said Aouita, Nawal El Moutawakel, Hicham El Guerrouj, Nezha Bidouane, and Khalid Skah, at the meeting.
The outcome of the PJD MPs' request hinges on the Akhannouch government's willingness to scrutinize Morocco's performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
