Morocco’s presence in the frozen strawberry market in Japan has grown significantly, according to data compiled by the international information-analytical platform East Fruit.
In 2023, Morocco exported 4,400 tons of frozen strawberries to Japan. Along with Egypt, which exported 5,400 tons, the North African kingdom accounted for 35% of Japan's total strawberry imports, ranking slightly behind China, which shipped 10,700 tons of frozen garden strawberries to the Japanese market in 2023.
During the first half of 2024, Morocco continued to expand its presence in Japan's frozen strawberry market. Together with Egypt, Morocco achieved a combined 44% share of frozen strawberry imports to Japan.
In addition to Japan, Morocco is also expanding its reach in other Asian frozen berry markets, particularly in China.
