On Thursday, August 22, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf met with U.S. Ambassador Elizabeth Moore Aubin in Algiers. Officially, the Sahara issue was not on the agenda, although both parties mentioned regional security in their respective communications.

«Minister Ahmed Attaf reiterated Algeria's commitment, as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, to supporting all efforts aimed at achieving an immediate, permanent, and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and contributing to peaceful solutions for the various crises and conflicts in regions to which our country belongs», stated the Algerian Foreign Ministry in a press release.

For her part, the American diplomat wrote on X : «We discussed cooperation at the UN, our mutual work for regional safety and stability, and enhancing economic ties across diverse fields such as agriculture, and education».

In July, in an interview with Algerian media, the U.S. ambassador remarked that former President Donald Trump's recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara «is a historic fact».
