OOS Aquaculture Morocco, a subsidiary of offshore service provider Overdulve Offshore Services (OOS), announced in August that it will be testing a new semi-submersible mussel farm (SMF) off Ras El Ma, a town in the Oriental region of northeastern Morocco.

The facility is designed for offshore mussel farming, the company stated on its website on August 13, where it announced the selection of Ras El Ma as the site for the project. The project aims to improve mussel farming infrastructure and enhance proactive measures to optimize the aquaculture sector, ensuring a sustainable and efficient future for mussel cultivation, OOS said.

The installation of additional structures at the semi-submersible farm will be completed over the next few months. These structures will include those used for tourism purposes, allowing the farm to also be operated as a marine tourism platform, according to Baird Maritime.

Other semi-submersible farms will be manufactured entirely in Morocco by OOS. The company also plans to expand its operations to other Mediterranean countries.
