An average of «700 attempts» to enter Ceuta from Morocco were recorded in the recent nights, according to the Government delegate of the autonomous city Cristina Perez Valero. The number of returns to Morocco, on the other hand, has been around 150 or 200 a day, she acknowledged.

Quoted by Spanish media, Valero also stated in a press conference on Monday that up to «1,500 people tried to cross the border» on Sunday night.

The Ceuta Government delegate acknowledged that the Moroccan authorities are collaborating in an extreme way in two ways : doubling or tripling the number of troops at the border to contain and admit people who are returned by Spain. «Without their help, the situation would be much more complicated». she added.

Between Sunday and Monday, migrants have reached the coast of Ceuta, taking advantage of foggy conditions overnight.
