Morocco's green hydrogen offer receives 40 applications

Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch chaired a meeting in Rabat on Thursday of the steering committee responsible for the «Morocco Offer» in the field of green hydrogen. This meeting was held in accordance with King Mohammed VI's instructions to accelerate the implementation of this offer with the necessary quality, ensuring the valorization of Morocco's strengths and responding to the projects of international investors in this promising sector, according to a statement by the Presidency of the Government.

The steering committee, chaired by the Prime Minister, discussed the progress made in implementing various projects related to Morocco's green hydrogen offer. In this context, the committee addressed the methodology to be adopted for evaluating and selecting projects, including a precise definition of the criteria.

This meeting, which comes less than six months after the Prime Minister issued the circular to activate the «Morocco Offer», highlighted that the platform established by the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) has so far received nearly 40 project applications.

This confirms the significant interest and active engagement of national investors and major international players in the energy sector in Morocco's competitive, comprehensive, transparent, and pragmatic offer, the press release read. Investors from various regions, from northern Morocco to its southern provinces, have shown interest in the offer.

It's worth noting that the state has identified substantial public real estate to incentivize and support project holders. This land, totaling approximately one million hectares, is designated for the development of the green hydrogen sector. The state is contractually committed to protecting and ensuring the proper use of this public real estate.

The meeting was attended by Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of Interior; Nadia Fettah, Minister of Economy and Finance; Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water; Riad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade; Mohcine Jazouli, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister in charge of Investment, Convergence, and Evaluation of Public Policies; Fouzi Lakjaa, Minister Delegate in charge of Budget; Tarik Moufaddal, President and Director General of the Moroccan Sustainable Energy Agency (MASEN); and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development (METSD).
