At least 35 people suffered from food poisoning on Wednesday in Casablanca’s Sbata arrondissement after consuming «khobza Ajiba», a popular street food sandwich made with mashed potatoes.
Local media reported that the victims were rushed to the Ben M’sik Regional Hospital after exhibiting symptoms of food poisoning.
The father of two of the victims, who were admitted to the hospital after eating the same sandwich, told the Arabic-language newspaper Al3omk that the meal consisted of bread, eggs, rice, potatoes, and other ingredients.
A Health Ministry delegate at the Ben M'sik district informed the same source that the hospital had been on high alert since Wednesday night due to the influx of patients, all of whom had eaten at the same fast food shop and displayed similar symptoms, including aches, diarrhea, and vomiting.
The official added, «The cases are stable, with no critical conditions reported. Most patients have received treatment, and only a few remain under medical observation. One case was transferred to the university hospital for further care».
