A Moroccan refugee, who had been living in Apolda, Germany, was deported back to Morocco on Thursday, German media reported on Friday. The man, who had committed multiple crimes, was flown from Frankfurt to Casablanca on Thursday evening, according to a spokesman for the German interior ministry.
A few days prior to his deportation, the individual was held in a deportation center in Rhineland-Palatinate. He had arrived in Germany in 2014 and was required to leave the country since 2017, based on information from the German interior ministry.
In collaboration with German authorities, Morocco confirmed the man's identity and issued the necessary documentation for his return.
The Weimarer Land district and the city of Apolda had sent an open letter to the state authorities, requesting help as the rejected asylum seeker, who had committed multiple crimes, posed a significant security risk.
According to prior reports from the Weimarer Land district office, his offenses included drug-related crimes, handling stolen goods, insults, and physical assault.
The ministry stated that the man had spent several years in prison. After his release in 2024, he reoffended.
