Abu Dhabi has proposed to Cairo the deployment of Arab forces to secure the Philadelphi Corridor, which separates Egypt from the Gaza Strip and is currently controlled by the Israeli army. The United Arab Emirates are considering the participation of Morocco, Mauritania, and Djibouti to form this coalition of Arab forces. According to the Qatari newspaper Al-Arabi Al-Jadid, based in London, the project has already been discussed with these countries.
Since the start of the war in Gaza on October 7, 2023, Morocco's name has been mentioned by both the Biden administration and the Israeli government as a potential participant in a peacekeeping force in Palestinian territory.
Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak (1999-2001) suggested last October the deployment of an Arab force in Gaza. He proposed that Egypt, Morocco, and the United Arab Emirates, all of which have established diplomatic relations with Tel Aviv, could contribute to this force to ensure the security of the Israeli border with the Gaza Strip.
As a reminder, the final declaration of the 33rd Ordinary Arab Summit, held on May 16 in Bahrain, called for «the deployment of international protection and peacekeeping forces of the United Nations in the occupied Palestinian territory».
