The Spanish Interior Ministry expressed its gratitude for Morocco's «great efforts» along the border perimeter to prevent irregular entry into Ceuta, emphasizing that cooperation with Moroccan security forces is «ongoing».
The EFE news agency cited sources from the ministry, stating that no irregular entries into Ceuta were recorded on Sunday. The entire border perimeter is under surveillance by state security forces and agencies, with Morocco ensuring the immediate return of those who attempt to cross the fence, following legal protocols.
The ministry, led by Fernando Grande-Marlaska, commended Morocco's «remarkable efforts» and «exceptional work» in recent days, which helped bring the situation under control. The sources added that the cooperation between Moroccan and Spanish security personnel has effectively prevented any entries into Ceuta.
Additionally, the government delegation in Ceuta confirmed on Monday that Morocco's surveillance operations successfully prevented migrants from entering the city from Sunday through Monday morning, despite dozens being spotted near the border fence. Sources from the delegation told EFE that Moroccan forces' containment efforts thwarted any attempts to reach Ceuta by swimming or crossing the double border fence.
The sources also indicated that the Trajal border would be intermittently closed if necessary to control entry and prevent migrants from disrupting regular vehicle and pedestrian traffic at customs.
Javier Ortega Smith, a Vox deputy in Ceuta, reported that Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska (PSOE) contacted the Moroccan government, requesting it to «mobilize all security and armed forces» to halt the mass entry of migrants into the autonomous city.
In recent days, hundreds of individuals seeking irregular migration have gathered in Fnideq and surrounding areas in response to social media calls to storm the Ceuta border fence on Sunday, September 15.
