Morocco and Japan sign 1.85 billion dirhams Universal Health Coverage Loan agreement

Morocco and Japan signed an Exchange of Notes on Friday in Rabat to finance the «Development Policy Loan for Universal Health Coverage» program, amounting to 1,850,000,000 Dirhams. The announcement was made in a press release by the Japanese Embassy in Morocco.

The Exchange of Notes was signed by Kuramitsu Hideaki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Morocco, and Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, in the presence of Khalid Ait Taleb, Minister of Health and Social Protection.

Following the signing of the Exchange of Notes, which establishes the procedure for execution, a loan contract was signed between Fouzi Lekjaa and Kawabata Tomoyuki, Resident Representative of JICA-Morocco.

The Development Policy Loan Program for achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is a key component of the strategic vision for reforming the health and social protection sector from 2022 to 2025, according to the press release.

The program aims to accelerate progress towards UHC in Morocco by improving the delivery and quality of maternal and child health and nutrition services, particularly in rural areas. Additionally, it seeks to enhance financial health protection, thereby contributing to economic stability and development efforts in Morocco.
