Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch met with his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez in New York on Tuesday, September 24. The discussions focused primarily on «further strengthening relations between Rabat and Madrid, as well as regional and international issues of common interest», according to MAP.
Sanchez highlighted the «excellent state of bilateral relations, the best in decades», during his meeting with Akhannouch. «We discussed the management of migratory flows and our commitment to orderly and safe migration», he said. «We also talked about the organization of the 2030 Football World Cup, which Spain, Portugal, and Morocco will co-host. We are confident it will be a great success».
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, was also attended by the foreign ministers of both Morocco and Spain.
This meeting follows the recent migration attempts of thousands of young Moroccans to Ceuta, which occurred just 10 days earlier.
