French MEP Rima Hassan urges Morocco to cut ties with Israel

French left-wing political party France Insoumise (LFI) MEP Rima Hassan has commented on relations between Rabat and Tel Aviv, established on December 10, 2020. «One wonders what the King of Morocco is waiting for to break off diplomatic relations with Israel», the Palestinian-born MEP wrote on her X account.

«Most of the Moroccan people are demanding support for the Palestinian people. Normalization with Israel is a betrayal», she argued.

Rima Hassan did not extend her appeal to other Arab countries that maintain relations with Israel, such as Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.

During her campaign for the European elections on June 9, 2024, the LFI candidate appeared wearing the Palestinian kufiya alongside Polisario supporters in France. A few weeks after her victory in this election, she visited Algiers on July 5 to commemorate the 62nd anniversary of Algerian independence and attend a soccer match. Upon her return to France, she declared on July 9 that «the Mecca of revolutionaries and freedom is and will remain Algiers».
