Authorities recover last missing person in Smouguen floods, death toll rises to 14

Seventeen days after the Smouguen floods in Tamanart, local authorities have recovered the last of the bodies swept away by the devastating floods on September 8, 2024. According to local human rights activists, another missing person's body was discovered this morning, bringing the death toll to 14.

As a result, Tata has borne a heavy toll from the recent floods that ravaged the Kingdom. The number of flood victims in this region has now reached 25, while the search for 6 missing persons continues.

In addition to the fatalities and missing persons, the region is suffering from «complete isolation due to the lack of roads» and «the total or partial destruction of many houses, especially older ones». There have also been significant losses of livestock, subsistence crops, agricultural products, and palm trees, along with severe soil erosion and the complete destruction of road bridges.

This has left Tata and several of its villages as «disaster areas isolated from the outside world», as described by Mbarek Outchrifat, president of the Ifouss Forum, in a previous statement to Yabiladi.
