The royal initiative to facilitate access to Sahel countries, launched on November 6, 2023, is progressing steadily. On the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, a roundtable meeting of this royal project was held in New York on Friday, according to Moroccan diplomacy.

The foreign ministers of Morocco, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Chad «commended, in a joint statement, the work accomplished by the National Task Forces» of the five states, since «the 1st meeting of the national Task Forces, held in Rabat last June».

The ministers «examined the projects proposed by Morocco within the framework of this International Initiative, which align with the national development plans currently being implemented in each country», the same source specifies.

The foreign ministers agreed to meet again soon as part of the ongoing operationalization of the roundtable of the royal initiative.

For the record, the five Sahel partner countries of Morocco participated in an economic forum organized in Dakhla in July.
