The delegation of U.S. senators visiting Morocco met on Monday, October 7, in Rabat with Abdellatif Loudiyi, the Minister Delegate in charge of National Defense Administration, and General Mohammed Berrid, the FAR Inspector General and Commander of the Southern Zone.
The discussions focused on «bilateral cooperation concerning security and defense issues, as well as the regional security situation», according to a statement from the National Defense Administration.
The senators highlighted the «excellence of the historic relations of friendship and cooperation between the United States and the Kingdom of Morocco», further strengthened through the Bilateral Defense Consultative Committee and senior official visits between the two countries. They also praised Morocco's significant role, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, in promoting peace and stability in Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East, the statement added.
U.S. Ambassador to Morocco Puneet Talwar also participated in the meeting. Earlier in the day, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita received the U.S. Senate delegation.
In October 2020, Rabat and Washington signed a military cooperation agreement valid until 2030. In May 2023, Morocco and the U.S. signed a roadmap for military cooperation, outlining guidelines to implement activities agreed upon during the 13th session of the Moroccan-American Defense Consultative Committee (DCC).
