A spokesperson for Germany's Federal Foreign Office stated on Monday that the country has taken note of the European Union Court of Justice's ruling on EU-Morocco trade agreements concerning fisheries and agriculture.
In a statement released on the Ministry's official website, the spokesperson emphasized Germany's respect for «the Court's independence», while voicing attachement for the partnership with Morocco. «We attach great importance to the strategic, multidimensional, and privileged partnership between the EU and Morocco», the spokesperson stressed, noting that bilateral relations were intensified in June through a regular strategic dialogue at the foreign minister level.
On October 4, the EU's top court dismissed appeals filed by several EU member states against its earlier decision to annul the 2019 agricultural and fisheries agreements, which included Western Sahara as part of the Morocco-EU deal.
Several European countries, including Spain, France, and Portugal, have expressed their commitment to cooperation with Morocco following the ruling.
