The head of Burundi's diplomacy is leading «an economic mission to Morocco», indicates the Burundian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As part of this visit, Albert Shingiro met on Thursday, October 10, in Rabat with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.

The two ministers «reviewed bilateral issues related to the upcoming round table and the ministerial meeting of the joint commission». Indeed, the Burundian government plans to organize, on December 5 and 6, a round table on investment opportunities in this African country. To this end, the delegation led by Minister Shingiro invited Moroccan investors to this event, specifies the same source.

In its communication regarding the meeting between Nasser Bourita and Albert Shingiro, Moroccan diplomacy emphasized «the constant and unconditional support [of Burundi] for Morocco's territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region». For the record, Burundi had opened a consulate general in Laâyoune on February 28, 2020.

It added that «Mr. Shingiro praised the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, and the royal initiatives in favor of the Atlantic African states and to promote access of Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, contributing to a prosperous Africa and cooperative solidarity».

«The two ministers proceeded to the signing of a joint communiqué and agreed on the signing of the 2025-2027 Roadmap during the next joint cooperation commission, planned in Burundi».

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burundi met on September 23 in New York with his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf. The discussions focused on «the prospects for strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as on several files and issues of common interest at the continental level», emphasized Algerian diplomacy.

In January 2021, the relations between Rabat and Gitega underwent a short period of tension, but understanding quickly prevailed over the differences.
