General Saïd Chengriha, the head of the Algerian army, visited Mauritania from October 15 to 17. He met with President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, delivering a message from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Chengriha also held separate talks with Mauritanian Defense Minister Hanena Ould Sidi and army chief General Mokhtar Bella Chaabane.
A joint communiqué was issued following these meetings. The statement highlighted the focus on strengthening bilateral military cooperation between Mauritania and Algeria, particularly in the fight against violent extremism and organized crime in the Sahel region.
The Algerian Ministry of Defense announced that General Saïd Chengriha and his Mauritanian counterpart co-chaired the signing ceremony of a cooperation protocol for intelligence exchange. The agreement involves the Central Director of Army Security of the Algerian General Staff and the Commander of the Military Intelligence and Security Division of the Mauritanian Armed Forces General Staff.
In November 2023, the Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), Commander of the South Zone, visited Mauritania to participate in the 4th session of the Moroccan-Mauritanian Joint Military Commission.
