Algeria is preparing to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its armed struggle against France on November 1. On this occasion, the Algerian government hopes to bring together the presidents of Mauritania and Tunisia, the president of the Presidential Council of Libya, and the leader of the Polisario. Brahim Ghali has also been invited to attend the commemoration. On Thursday, October 17, the Algerian Minister of Moudjahidines, Laïd Rebigua, visited the Tindouf camps to deliver President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's invitation.
President Tebboune took advantage of Libyan leader Mohamed Younes El-Menfi’s visit to Algiers to invite him to join the celebrations. Meanwhile, General Said Chengriha personally invited Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani during a three-day visit to Nouakchott, during which he signed a cooperation agreement between the two countries' armies in the area of intelligence sharing.
Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed is also expected to visit Algiers to participate in the 70th anniversary of the launch of the armed struggle against France. Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, officially delivered his invitation on Thursday. This was followed by the visit of Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti to Algiers. After holding discussions with his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf, Nafti was received yesterday by President Tebboune.
Saïed previously attended the 60th anniversary of Algeria’s independence on July 5, 2022, alongside Brahim Ghali. On August 27 of the same year, received at Carthage the Polisario leader, who had come—much to the dismay of Tokyo and Rabat—to participate in the 8th edition of the Japan-Africa summit (Tokyo International Conference on African Development, or TICAD).
