Spain reaffirms commitment to Morocco despite EU court ruling

Spain's Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas, reiterated the Spanish government's commitment to deepening strategic relations with Morocco, despite the recent European Court of Justice ruling that annulled agricultural and fisheries agreements between the two countries.

Speaking to reporters in Luxembourg ahead of a meeting of EU agriculture and fisheries ministers, Planas emphasized Spain's interest in maintaining strong ties with Morocco. He acknowledged the court's decision but indicated that Spain would continue to work towards strengthening bilateral relations.

When asked about the possibility of including the Polisario Front in future negotiations, Planas stated that the EU must carefully assess the legal and political implications of the court's ruling.

The minister also announced his upcoming visit to Rabat to participate in a ministerial meeting of the Center for Higher Studies in Mediterranean Agriculture (CIHEAM). He expressed his anticipation for meeting with his Moroccan counterpart and discussing the implications of the EU court ruling on bilateral cooperation.
