Morocco is taking part in the FIA Motorsport Games, a biennial motorsport event administered by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The competition is taking place from October 23 to 27 in Valencia, Spain, reads a press release by the Royal Moroccan Motor Sports Federation.
The games will see the participation of nearly 100 countries for its 3rd edition. Competitors will compete in 26 disciplines, including karting, rallying, cross-country, drifting, slalom, and e-sport.
Morocco will be represented at the FIA Motorsport Games by three athletes : Nahyl El Gaoudi, reigning MENA champion in karting, Ismail Oublal in the F4 e-sport category, and Hamada Erquizi in the GT e-sport category.
«The Royal Moroccan Motor Sports Federation (FRMSA) aims to build on the resounding success of the national karting team, crowned champions of the MENA Nations Cup in Qatar in December 2023», reads the same statement.
THE sports body recalls that for the past 3 years, particular attention has been paid to motor sports in the Kingdom. A Moroccan championship in the 4-stroke category has enabled all enthusiasts to take part in motor sports from an early age, it detailed.
Morocco has been able to respond to the FIA's directives to make e-sport also a highly popular discipline. Names such as Reda Hssain, Hamza Mennane, and Yassine Ounassi have shone in recent competitions in the MENA region.
It is worth noting that the first edition of the competition in Rome saw the 18 participating countries compete in six disciplines. In Marseilles in 2022, 72 nations took part.
In Valencia, the athletes will compete over four days in an Olympic spirit, and will have to face up to what promises to be capricious weather.
The Moroccan public will be able to follow the FIA Motorsport Games 2024 on the social media accounts of the Royal Moroccan Motor Sports Federation.
