CAF announces 2024 awards nominees with seven Moroccan contenders

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Thursday the list of nominees for the 2024 CAF Awards (men’s category), featuring seven Moroccan nominations.

In a statement, CAF revealed ten nominees in each of the seven men’s categories: African Player of the Year, African Coach of the Year, African Goalkeeper of the Year, African Team of the Year, Young African Player of the Year, Best Player within Africa, and African Club of the Year. The awards cover the period from January to October 2024.

Regarding the Moroccan nominees, Achraf Hakimi of Paris Saint-Germain (France) and Soufiane Rahimi of Al Ain (UAE) are contenders for African Player of the Year. Mounir El Kajoui of Nahdat Berkane is in the running for African Goalkeeper of the Year.

Morocco’s national team is nominated for African Team of the Year, after winning it last year. Bilal El Khannouss of Leicester City (England) and Eliesse Ben Seghir of Monaco (France) are nominated for Young African Player of the Year, while Nahdat Berkane is up for African Club of the Year.

CAF also noted that there are seven similar categories in the women’s awards. The 2024 CAF Awards ceremony will take place in Marrakech on December 16, marking the second consecutive year the city hosts the event.
