The Moroccan Consulate General in Murcia, Spain, responded to a video showing a private security guard assaulting a Moroccan citizen on its premises. Consulate sources expressed «regret» over the incident, describing it as an «isolated» altercation between a guard from a local private security company and a Moroccan citizen.
«As soon as it learned of the incident, the consulate contacted the company to express its strong disapproval of the guard's inappropriate conduct, which violated the regulations governing the company's security personnel, as well as specific directives prohibiting any verbal or physical violence against visitors under any circumstances», the sources stated. They added that the consulate requested the replacement of the guard responsible, a measure confirmed by Spanish media on Saturday.
Spanish police have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident. «The Consulate General of the Kingdom of Morocco has expressed its full cooperation with Spanish authorities in this investigation», the sources added.
