In a speech to the Moroccan Parliament on Tuesday, the French President reaffirmed his support for Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara. He reiterated extracts from the letter he sent to King Mohammed VI on July 30, addressing Moroccan MPs.
«For France, the present and future of this territory lie within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty. The 2007 autonomy plan is the only basis for achieving a just, lasting, and negotiated political solution in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council», he stated.
«This is the position that France will implement to support Morocco in international forums», he pledged. «This position is not hostile to anyone; it opens a new page between us and all those who want to act within a framework of regional cooperation in the Mediterranean, with Morocco's neighbors, and with the European Union».
Emmanuel Macron concluded his speech on the Sahara question by reaffirming the commitment of French companies to contribute to Moroccan development projects in the region, a position already announced by French ministers in the Attal government during their visits to Morocco.
