The Moroccan consulate in Valencia announced that, so far, no casualties have been recorded among members of the Moroccan community as a result of Storm Dana, which swept through southeastern Spain on Tuesday.
«The local authorities have not yet notified us of any Moroccan victims or missing persons», a source from the consulate told Yabiladi, adding that the consulate has set up a dedicated emergency hotline (818.631.935.0034) for the Moroccan community to handle urgent cases related to the current state of alert.
According to the latest figures from the Emergency Coordination Center in Valencia, the death toll from Storm Dana has reached at least 62 people.
In a statement, the center said that this latest toll is provisional and is based on information provided by various security forces and emergency services involved in managing the disaster’s aftermath.
The Emergency Coordination Center also stated that the identification of victims is ongoing and that they activated a victim count procedure on Tuesday evening, in case the number of flood victims increases.
«The priority is to find the missing», said Milagros Tolon, central government delegate for Castilla-La Mancha, adding that emergency services, supported by drones, had been working throughout the night to locate them.
The Valencia City Council announced that all schools and parks will remain closed on Wednesday, and all sporting events have been canceled.
