The Polisario Front denounced French President Emmanuel Macron’s speech to the Moroccan parliament on Tuesday, in which he reaffirmed his support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
The separatist front described the French position as «shameful» and «contrary to the United Nations Charter and its resolutions on Western Sahara, as well as to the responsibilities of the French state as a permanent member of the Security Council».
«France has excluded itself from the UN’s efforts to decolonize Western Sahara», the Frente POLISARIO stated.
The Front warned that this stance «could lead to greater tension and instability in the North and West African regions», adding, «President Macron has shown that it is Paris that has been obstructing the UN’s efforts to decolonize Western Sahara since 1975».
On Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed in a speech to business leaders and economic actors that the French Development Agency would continue financing projects in Morocco, including those undertaken by French companies in the Sahara.
