Armed elements of the Polisario fired rockets on Saturday at the city of Al Mahbes, located in the Sahara. «The four projectiles fell not far from tents hosting Sahrawi civilians who were commemorating the 49th anniversary of the Green March, but without causing any casualties», said a Moroccan source close to the matter in statements to Yabiladi.
«This operation was carried out by members of the Polisario who were aboard four all-terrain vehicles. A drone of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) then attacked them», the same source emphasized. The provisional toll of this new airstrike reports the death of a senior official of the Polisario's 6th military region, Abdelaziz Ould Bariya.
Audio messages exchanged between Sahrawis, settled in the Tindouf camps, confirmed this human loss in the ranks of the Front's militias. This is the third drone strike by the FAR, recorded since the beginning of the week, against armed elements of the Polisario, following those on Tuesday and Thursday.
The leadership of the Front acknowledged, in a communiqué published on Saturday, having targeted FAR positions at Al Mahbes, but without mentioning that the fired projectiles fell not far from a gathering of Sahrawi civilians.
In October and November 2023, the Polisario had launched rockets at civilian targets in Es-Smara, killing a young Moroccan residing abroad.
