The new design for the national team jerseys has been unveiled ahead of the upcoming African Cup of Nations (CAN 2025) to be hosted in Morocco. Presented by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Royal Air Maroc (RAM), Planet Sport, and Puma, the design is strongly inspired by Moroccan heritage and culture and bears the signature of Abderrahmane Trabsini.
«Embodying the essence of Moroccan art, the home kit features motifs inspired by geometric designs and traditional Moroccan zellige tiles, with the five-pointed star of the Moroccan flag highlighted in the center, reflecting the authenticity of Moroccan culture», reads a joint release.
«For the away kit, embroidery and symbols inspired by Amazigh craftsmanship have been incorporated, with motifs that deeply connect to Moroccan heritage, adding an extra cultural dimension to the design», the release adds.
It also notes that «the vibrant red and green palette reflects the national flag, while the inclusion of Tifinagh script on the back of the jersey pays homage to Morocco’s rich history and cultural diversity».
At Rabat-Salé Airport, the launch ceremony took on a promotional tone, celebrating both the national team and Morocco as a tourist destination, in line with «several innovative initiatives» introduced through this partnership.
For two days, flight crews on RAM aircraft, as well as the airline’s ground staff at airports across Morocco and abroad, will wear the new jerseys.
«These staff are primarily based at high-traffic destinations such as Casablanca, Marrakech, Dakhla, Laâyoune, and Oujda, as well as at international locations like Abidjan, Paris-Orly, Frankfurt, London, Milan, New York, Barcelona, and Dakar», states the press release.
Two years ago, the use of Moroccan zellige motifs on the jerseys of the Algerian soccer team caused a significant controversy. At the time, Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication accused Adidas of cultural appropriation. The international sportswear brand eventually canceled the design and issued an apology.
